“In India, yoga flows with the blood of the people.”
–Neem Karoli Baba

Madhuban means “Abode of Honey”, and it’s nestled on a Himalayan hillside among orchards, overlooking a river that meanders between looming hills. It’s just 12 km from Kainchi Ashram, where Neem Karoli Baba’s presence still resonates from the sacred Earth.

This trip is an offering from our hearts to yours. We will gather in the sacred and beautiful atmosphere of the Himalayas, and inhale the deep resonating hum that permeates the majestic mountainous region known as the Kumaon Hills. We will bathe in the grace of Neem Karoli Baba, and other great Indian Saints who have walked these sacred mountains, leaving their blessings to inspire spiritual aspirants for millennia. Staying at the pristine Madhuban retreat center, nestled in the exalted Himalayan foothills, we will meditate, chant, and pray together, while embarking on day trips to the many sacred sites in the region, including Neem Karoli Baba’s magical Kainchi Ashram!

This Retreat will include:

Meet at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Delhi Branch on October 3rd at noon and stay overnight
On October 4th travel together by train to Kathgodam and then on by car to Madhuban
8 Day Bhakti Yoga immersion with David Newman and Shantala (Benjy and Heather Wertheimer), including daily chanting and kirtan, workshops, and satsang
Daily morning asana sessions with Yoga Center Amherst director Matthew Andrews
Day trips to Neem Karoli Baba’s Kainchi Ashram
Guided trips to local temples and sacred sites
Hiking trips in the majestic Kumaon Hills
Return to Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Delhi Branch on October 13th, stay overnight, and closing circle on October 14th

David Newman is a renowned sacred mantra artist, singer-songwriter, author, and inspirational teacher. David, also known as Durga Das, travels extensively sharing his music, and teachings on the path of love as a vehicle for spiritual awakening. He has released numerous chart-topping world music albums, and is the author of the #1 Amazon bestseller The Timebound Traveler.

David teaches with passion and spontaneity. Whether in an informal setting, through his music, or as part of his workshops, retreats, and satsangs, he shares the many facets of truth that he has discovered along the way with generosity of spirit. His teaching style is provocative yet compassionate and nurturing, with sensitivity to the needs of those present. David’s gift is to lovingly guide others to awakening as a means of fulfilling their greater life’s purpose.

Benjy and Heather Wertheimer have been leading kirtan (sacred chanting) worldwide since 2001 as the duo Shantala. They are known for their special gift of bringing the audience into a vast and loving experience through their unique blend of exquisite voices with instruments of India and the West. Together they create music with beauty, passion, and reverence. Shantala has performed and recorded internationally with David Newman, Krishna Das, Deva Premal & Miten, and Jai Uttal. They were named as one of the top Kirtan “Wallahs to Watch” by Yoga + Joyful Living Magazine.

Heather Wertheimer is a kirtan artist, singer, songwriter, and guitarist who combines her special love of both music and yoga to lead devotional chanting internationally. She brings the richness of her healing background as a therapist, meditator and yoga teacher into the practice of kirtan. Master musician Benjy Wertheimer is an award-winning songwriter, vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist (playing tabla, congas, percussion, esraj, guitar, and keyboards). He studied Indian classical music for over 25 years with some of the greatest masters of that tradition (including Alla Rakha, Zakir Hussain, Ali Akbar Khan and Z. M. Dagar), and his extraordinary and unique musical gifts from East and West create a sense of wonder and awe in the listener.
